Dr Courtenay Chase is a general practitioner from Barbados who was awarded a National scholarship upon completion of her education at Queen’s College Secondary School in Barbados. This scholarship facilitated her medical training at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica where she graduated with double honours in internal medicine and obstetrics and gynaecology. She was also presented with the MAJIF prize for the top performance in obstetrics and gynaecology in the region. She has a special interest in general surgery and currently serves as a junior research fellow with a non-profit organization called the Caribbean Colon Cancer Initiative. The aim of this organization is to generate research specific to the Caribbean population and facilitate the implementation of optimal evidence-based treatment algorithms in the region. Through this organization, she has assisted with the publication of numerous journal articles, some of which she was the primary author. Dr.Chase has an avid passion for colorectal cancer advocacy and hopes to assist in the implementation of a nationalized screening protocol in the islands.
